Work to repair Reis Run Road slide in Ross won't start until ground is stable

A section of Reis Run Road in Ross Township will remain closed in both directions until a landslide that prompted the shut down becomes stable enough to begin repairs, according to a township commissioner.

The landslide was reported at around 10 p.m. on May 31, according to Ross police. The road is closed between Rochester and Arndt roads.

PennDOT, which is responsible for maintenance and repairs of the road, initially expected the road would be reopened early last week.

But work cannot begin because of the instability of the land, according to Ross Commissioner Joe Laslavic.

“As of now, the slide is still active in the sense that there is still ground movement,” he said Thursday afternoon in a social media post.

The commissioner said he was informed by state officials that once the land is stable enough, repairs will begin.

“PennDOT has stated that there is still no timetable for this fix at this time,” Laslavic said.

Local traffic is being permitted up to the point of the slide, but all other vehicles are being detoured. The detour, which follows Reis Run Road to Rochester Road and then back onto Reis Run, is the same for north and south bound traffic.
