Events and programs offered by Northern Tier Regional Library, 4015 Dickey Road, Richland, include:

• Friends of the Northern Tier Library’s used book sale is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 11, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 12 and 13, noon to 3 p.m. April 14, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 15 for $5 bags of books.

All proceeds fund events such as children’s holiday parties and the library’s summer learning program.

• Bridget’s Book Club, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. April 10, discussion of “Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers” by Jesse Q. Sutanto.

• Conversation group, 1 to 3 p.m. April 11, for sharing ideas and hearing what others have to say. For more information, email cdstorrs@gmail.com.

• Friendly Chess Tournament, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13. Competition is at two levels: Junior Division for kindergarten through fourth grade and Senior Division for fifth through eighth grades. Registration is required. Stop by the library before the event to fill out a registration card, or call 724-449-2665 to complete registration over the phone.

On the day of the tournament, please arrive 15 minutes early and bring a chess set with you. The library will provide snacks and certificates to all participants.

• Welcome Baby! Library Bags, 11 a.m. April 16. Attendees will receive a canvas bag with books, toys and manipulatives to engage with their babies.

Enjoy songs, rhymes and a play time with fun activities. Snacks and refreshments will be offered, and each baby will go home with a new bag and brand-new library card if parents/guardians wish to open their baby’s that day.

The event is for babies through 18 months and their families, while supplies last. Registration is required, and siblings are welcome. The program was made possible with a grant through the Allegheny County Library Association that provides for the first 100 bags.

• Nonfiction book discussion, 1 p.m. April 16, “The Anthropocene Reviewed: Essays on a Human-­Centered Planet” by John Green.

The Anthropocene is the current geologic age, in which humans have profoundly reshaped the planet and its biodiversity. In this collection of essays adapted and expanded from his groundbreaking podcast, Green reviews different facets of the human-centered planet on a five-star scale, from the QWERTY keyboard and sunsets to Canadian geese and penguins of Madagascar.

• Gardening from Seed, 6 p.m. April 16. Join Penn State Master Gardener John Powell for a program that covers buying quality seeds, preparing them for success, optimizing their growth and ultimately transplanting them to the garden. Registration is required.

• A Great Deal card and game group, 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays on the library’s lower level. Currently offered are pinochle on Tuesdays and American mahjong on Wednesdays, but additional games may follow. Registration is requested.

• Knit Lit, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 17. Knitters, crocheters, and yarn art enthusiasts are welcome to attend. Registration is required.

• Technology Help, 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through April 24. Register for a 30-minute session to focus on a basic topic, such as computers, smartphones or eReaders.

• Maker Monday at Pine-Richland High School, 2:45 to 5:30 p.m. April 22. Practice your sewing machine skills by making a bandana tote bag.

• NTRL Chess Club, 5 to 6 p.m. April 22. Practice chess skills and play against other youngsters in the community.

The library’s program room will be set up with chess sets and tables for families to meet and play a few rounds in an informal setting. This is a self-directed program for all ages, but registration is requested.

• The Weekly Project, Tuesdays, April 23 to May 21, featuring activities such as cooking, crafting, art and STEM. Each week will showcase a different project. Call the library or register online to reserve a supply kit that can be picked up on Tuesdays.

• Baby Play Time, 11 a.m. Tuesdays, April 23 to May 21. Half-hour sessions feature songs, finger plays, stories and rhymes.

• Take-home Crafts, Tuesdays, April 23 to May 21. Kids of all ages are invited to enjoy a simple weekly craft. Call the library or register online to reserve a supply kit that can be picked up on Tuesdays.

The program is intended for babies through 18 months and will be held in the program room on the library’s main level. Siblings are welcome, and only one registration is required for the series of five play times.

• Family Story and Play Time, 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, April 24 to May 22, and Thursdays, April 25 to May 23, for toddlers, preschoolers and their families.

The program features songs and rhymes, books and lots of movement, hosted in the program room on the library’s main level. Families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on, but it’s not necessary, as the room has a carpeted floor.

Registration is required. Only one registration is necessary for the series of five story times.

• “Japan-Damonia,” 5 to 6:30 p.m. April 24, a celebration involving activities and food from Japan. Participants can make sushi and origami, write in Katakana characters, craft cherry blossoms and more. Families and all ages are welcome to attend. Registration is required.

• Memory Care, 6 to 7 p.m. April 25. Erin McMaster, memory care adviser from Arden Courts, will present a look at the world of memory loss. Registration is required.

• Maker Space Take-Home Kit, featuring directions and materials to complete a craft. For April 29, the craft involves using tissue paper to make a window sun catcher. Call the library or register online to reserve a supply kit.

• Plant and garden sale, 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. May 17 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18. Choose from hundreds of annuals, herbs, hanging baskets and more, and have it all waiting for you at the library.

• May the Fourth Be With You, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4, featuring a variety of crafts and activities. Dress up in your favorite “Star Wars” gear. The event for all ages, and registration is required.

Library programs at the Pine Community Center, 100 Pine Park Drive, include:

• American Mahjong, noon April 15. Learn and play the popular tile game.

• Family Story Time, 11 a.m. April 19. Sing, move, read books and practice rhymes. This program is for children of all ages, and registration is required.

• Coffee and Crime Book Club, 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 22, a discussion of “Thyme of Death” by Susan Wittig Albert.
