Northern Tier Library kicking off Summer Learning Program

Northern Tier Library is gearing up for another Summer Learning Program, which will run June 13-Aug. 5, and end with a celebration on Aug. 6.
Ocean of Possibilities is the theme for 2022, and that means lots of ocean-related stories, crafts and activities. The library will offer a wide variety of programs and materials to encourage ocean exploration: family art projects, STEAM activities, collaborative zine creations, cooking classes and tons of books to read.
There will be paper art kits and DIY crafts available for families to pick up and enjoy at home. Outdoor activities, including zine creation, STEAM experiments and story times, will be offered outside every week. Indoor activities will be available too, such as drop-in programming that can be enjoyed any time when visiting the library, and the return of the kids cooking program.
For more information, call the library at 724-449-2665 or visit northerntierlibrary.org.
Drop-in Weekly Programming
Each activity is available at the round table near the teen area during library hours. There will be a new activity each week for all members of the family.
Community Art Project
Every other week, the library will set up a community-created art installation. Library visitors will get the chance to add an element to every project when they visit the library.
Maker Mondays
Every Monday, families can enjoy kits from the library’s makerspace. Call or register online to reserve a kit, and note that each week is requested separately. Kits will then be available for weekly pickup inside the library’s lobby.
Family Art Club
Simple, collaborative paper art projects for the whole family to enjoy. This year, prompts are based on ocean and deep-sea creatures. Each week, there is a take-home kit with instructions and supplies, available for lobby pickup. Please call or register online to reserve a kit, and note that each week is requested separately.
Build-It Tuesdays
Tuesdays at 3 p.m.
Bring your best building skills to the library. Lowe’s and Home Depot have donated building kits that can be assembled with a hammer. Two different kits will be available on two separate dates for each kit. Please wear old clothes that can get dust or paint on them. For children ages 5 and up. Registration is required.
STEAM Outside
Wednesdays, June 15-Aug. 3, 3-5 p.m.
Join us outside on Wednesday afternoons for STEAM activities. Registration is required.
Fresh Air Story & Playtime
Wednesdays and Thursdays, June 15-Aug. 4, 10:30 a.m.
Come and enjoy some toys and games before the start of outside family story time. This program is an outside event, weather permitting. Please bring a camping chair or blanket to sit on our side lawn, and bring a rattle or noise-making toy as well. In case of rain, we’ll move our story time to the program room upstairs.
Digital vs. Analog Showdown
Thursdays, June 16-Aug. 4, 2:30-4 p.m.
Who will win? Trick Question, you do… when you build, play and explore with either or both of our digital and analog activities designed for creative learning. Some activities will even send you home with an item you made yourself. This is a self-directed program.
NTRLZINE
Fridays, June 17-Aug. 5 at 11 a.m.
NTRLZINE is based on the DIY aesthetic of online magazines and made to share creative works from our community as a scrapbook of our Summer Learning Program. This program is open to all ages and abilities. Each week, we will gather for brainstorming and creation sessions. Snacks and a variety of art supplies will be provided. Submissions will be compiled and published at the end of the summer. Feel free to participate remotely, too. Take a photo and share your contributions with us on Facebook or send an email to northerntiersrc@gmail.com
Friday Cooking Club
All dates offer two sessions every Friday at 1 and 2:30 p.m.
Four different areas of cooking (and eating) will be explored this summer. A new module will be offered every two weeks. Four sessions of the same program will be available on two consecutive Fridays: Session A will be at 1 p.m. and Session B at 2:30 p.m. Participants can sign up for the time and date that is most convenient for each of our four modules. This program is for children ages 7 and up, and registration is required.
