Northland Public Library’s Storybook-Palooza was a popular event in 2022 and brought back this year during as part of The Children’s Gala: A Storybook Circus, on Sept. 30.

Northland Public Library is open the following hours:

Sunday — 1 to 5 p.m.

Monday through Thursday — 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday — 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Library will be closed on Friday, Nov. 3 for a staff development day.

Adults

Terrifying Tales by the Fire

Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.

Have you ever experienced the fear of staying in a haunted house? Are you convinced you’ve had a close encounter with a ghost or spirit? Whether it’s true or you’ve heard it from the friend of a friend, bring your scary tales and join us in the Library’s Learning Garden. Local author Thomas White will share some terrifying local stories.

Snacks and beverages will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Registration is required for this adult event.

Scary Movie Night: “Poltergeist” (2015)

Friday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Registration is required for this adult program. Snacks will be provided.

Wellness Works: All About Osteoporosis

Thursday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.

Rashelle Maderitz from Tri Rivers Musculoskeletal Centers will provide information about the potential impact of osteoporosis on those who have it, their caregivers and the community. Learn the importance of screening, identification, and treatment, and get a description of the 4 Steps to Healthy Movement used to prevent and treat osteoporosis. Registration is required.

Children, ‘Tweens and Teens

Children’s Book Authors Day

Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Local children’s book authors read their stories. Participate in crafts and activities that celebrate children’s literature. No registration is needed for this drop-in program.

New Parent Workshop: Early Literacy for Your Baby — For New and Expectant Parents

Oct. 25 and Nov. 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

It’s never too early to start reading to your baby! New and expectant parents are invited to this fun and informal workshop designed to introduce ways to nurture early literacy at home. Reading with your baby is bonding time, and builds pre-reading skills.

Babies are welcome to attend with their grown-ups. There will be time for conversation with other new parents at the end of the evening. Registration is required for this free program.

Owl-O-Ween Celebration!

Sunday, Oct. 29 from 2-3 p.m.

Children and their caregivers are invited to show off their costumes, trick or treat in the library, walk in our costume parade and more! All ages welcomed. No registration is required.

Conversation Salon

Fourth Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m.

Oct. 20

Informal chats about current events, local issues, or national headlines. An opportunity to share ideas, listen with respect to other’s opinions, and learn from each other. No registration is required.

Toddler Time

Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.

Twenty minutes of songs, rhymes, and library fun to build important pre-reading skills for toddlers 12 months through 35 months of age, with a caregiver. Sign up once for the whole month in one of the day / time slots.

Teen Game Night — on Discord!

Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m.

Join us on Discord for a virtual game night! Games we’ve played (and will play again!) include Among Us, Roblox, Minecraft, Jackbox, and much more! Teens ages 13 to 18 can go to tinyurl.com/DiscGAMING to sign up to join the countywide Discord server.

Preschool Storytime!

Wednesdays at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.

Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29

No storytime on Nov. 22.

Children ages 3 to 5 and can come to the library for a 30-minute storytime featuring stories, songs, rhymes and rhythms.

Attendance requirements: Children must be at least 3 to attend. Infants under the age of 1 may attend with their sibling(s). No registration is required for this first come, first served program.

Note: A limited number of people (children and adults) will be permitted in the meeting rooms. No one will be admitted once the program begins.
