Oakmont Borough is kicking off the holiday season on Nov. 19 with the annual Oakmont Hometown Christmas celebration along Allegheny River Boulevard, from 4 to 8 p.m.
The event begins with entertainment on the main stage near the clock tower, but it really kicks into high gear with the holiday parade at 5 o’clock, starting in Verona and proceeding on the boulevard to Pennsylvania Avenue. As is tradition, Santa Claus will be headlining the parade.
The parade will also fa fire truck decorating contest and a best float contest, in addition to riders from Stonybrook Saddle Club and the usual cadre of local businesses led as always by the Riverview Marching Band.
The parade will culminate with the illumination of the Christmas Tree in town once Santa Claus passes by and uses his “magic wand” to turn on the lights.
Following the parade, attendees will be able ride one of two trolleys, the first of which goes between Verona and The Oaks Theater. A second trolley will go from the Oakmont Bakery to The Oaks, and anyone getting off at the theater stop will be able to visit with Santa.
There will also be over 40 vendors lining Allegheny River Boulevard, including Bubbles and Bites, Atria’s, Del Vecchio’s, Leone’s Pizza, Fox’s Pizza, Pittsburgh Cookie Table, Revival Chili, Pappy’s Gourmet Kettle Corn, Acclimation Brewing, From the Ground Up coffee and espresso, Oakmont Greek Orthodox Church gyros and many more.
The stage will have continuous entertainment all night, with singers, carolers and plenty of talent from the local community. Balloon artists and jugglers will also line the boulevard, and there will other family-themed activities in which to participate.
Also, a 50-plus-vendor Chinese auction will be set up, another event tradition.
“From the wonderful smell of kettle corn to the beautiful sounds of carolers, Oakmont’s Hometown Christmas has everything to get you into the holiday spirit,” Kim Butler of the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce and the event chairperson, said “We also want to thank his year’s main sponsor Springer Insurance Agency, Inc. — State Farm and our other sponsors, including Thermo Twin Windows, Burket Truby Funeral Home, Riverview Carpet Flooring, The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, Smith Orthodontics, Anderson Interiors, Inc., Etta’s Blvd. Doggie Daycare and Oakmont Carnegie Library.”
