During a recent South Arts Pittsburgh show at the Schoolhouse Arts and History Center in Bethel Park, member Pat Miyamoto showed her talent by producing on-the-spot portraits of well-known local residents.

Her subjects included Bethel Park Mayor Jack Allen; Andy Amrhein, owner of Evey True Value Hardware and Rental; and John Oakes, representing Ward 3 on Bethel Park Council.

A percentage of art sales at the event went to the Bethel Park Historical Society for their continued improvements of the arts and history center, which was built in 1905 to house Bethel High School.

South Arts Pittsburgh, founded in 1984, was designed to bring education, cultural outreach and networking opportunities to the community through various art programs. The nonprofit hosts a weekly open studio session on Friday mornings, bi-weekly figure drawing classes on Wednesday evenings and open studio/demonstrations on opposite Wednesdays, all at the arts and history center, 2600 South Park Road.
