Motorists on the Parkway East should brace for months of single-lane restrictions in Allegheny County’s eastern suburbs due to upcoming work by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Starting next week, weather permitting, Interstate 376 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between the Churchill/Route 130 interchange at Exit 79B and the Monroeville/Route 48 interchange at Exit 84A, stretching across Churchill, Wilkins, Penn Hills, and Monroeville.
PennDOT said the lane restrictions are scheduled to run through late November.
The restrictions were originally announced for Monday evening, but PennDOT changed its plans due to this week’s rainy forecast.
PennDOT said the lane closures are now anticipated to begin the night of April 8.
Construction crews will be replacing concrete median barriers, paving, painting bridges and performing other roadwork, PennDOT said.
The work is part of a $70 million project to upgrade the Parkway East.
