Pittsburgh police on Sunday, March 23, investigate a hit-and-run collision that injured a pedestrian and killed a dog in the city’s Mount Washington neighborhood.

A pedestrian was taken to a hospital in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver overnight Sunday in Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington neighborhood.

Officials told TribLive news partner WTAE the man was walking his dog, which was killed in the crash.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said shortly after 12:30 a.m. a portion of Bailey Avenue was closed, between Ruth Street and Haberman Avenue, as police investigated the collision. The road was reopened by 5:30 a.m.

Police located the suspect vehicle — which they had described as a black 2009 Lexus SUV — by late Sunday afternoon. Police towed the vehicle for processing, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing.
