Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto’s communications director will be leaving her role with the city at the end of the week, the mayor’s office announced Tuesday.

Molly Onufer, 33, of Shadyside, began working for the city in December of 2016 in the Office of Community Affairs, were she served as manager from 2017 through 2019.

Peduto appointed Onufer as assistant communications director in January 2020. She became the communications director in July 2021.

During her time in the communications office, Onufer served as the deputy press secretary and then press secretary.

“Being a fourth-generation Pittsburgher, it has been incredible to be a part of the transformation of the city that I love and to tell the story of the important and hard work of my colleagues in the Peduto Administration to make Pittsburgh a stronger, more equitable and livable city for all,” Onufer said.

She thanked Peduto, Chief of Staff Dan Gilman and former Chief of Staff Kevin Acklin for the opportunity “to serve the city and to work in partnership with the media and the community.”

“Molly has been a longtime friend and trusted advisor,” Peduto said. “In her time with the city, Molly has worked to find new, effective means for communicating with the public. I’d like to thank her for telling the city’s story — first in person to city residents at community meetings and then as a spokesperson for the city.”

Onufer’s last day with the city will be Friday. She will then begin a new role as director of marketing and public relations for Millcraft Investments, a Cecil-based real estate developer.
