Shoppers in the Penn Hills, Plum, Oakmont and Verona area now have a new option after the Sept. 24 opening of a Dollar General store on Milltown Road in Penn Hills.
The chain variety store, which now has more than 17,000 stores in 47 states across the country, offers easily replenished items for purchase at competitive prices. Store selections include food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, housewares, paper products, over-the-counter medicine, hygiene products, baby items and more.
“At Dollar General, we believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities we proudly serve, and the addition of our new (Penn Hills) store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes great prices on quality products in a convenient location,” said Dan Nieser, senior vice president of real estate and store development. “We look forward to welcoming customers to our new store and hope they will enjoy shopping at our new location.”
Dollar General is looking to hire up to 10 employees for the new location. Potential employees can apply at Dollar General’s website.
“Dollar General provides unrivaled opportunities for motivated individuals to start or advance their careers, and we look forward to welcoming new colleagues to the Dollar General employee family who share a passion for serving our customers and communities,” said Kathy Reardon, executive vice president and chief people officer.
In addition, Dollar General plans to give back to the community. Through a partnership with Kellogg’s in Dollar General’s “Serving Others” mission, they will be giving 100 new books to the elementary school. It’s part of a plan to distribute more than 100,000 books nationwide to the communities where Dollar General places its stores.
“Dollar General is proud to celebrate our new store openings by investing in the book collections of our local elementary school libraries,” said Denine Tore, vice president of corporate responsibility and philanthropy. “Books are critical for expanding vocabularies, building critical thinking skills and nourishing children’s imagination and creativity. We are grateful for our partnership with Kellogg Company in encouraging students’ lifelong love of reading by providing high-quality books to our hometown communities.”
The opening of the new Penn Hills location also allows schools and libraries in the local area to apply for grants through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The program has awarded almost $200 million in grants over the past 28 years to support literacy and education initiatives. As long as an organization or school lies within 15 miles of the new store, it will be eligible to apply at dgliteracy.com.
The new Penn Hills location is located at 1108 Milltown Road, Verona, PA, 15147.
