A Verona resident has been displaced due a fire at a two-story home near St. Joseph Catholic Church.
No injuries were reported in connection with the Monday afternoon fire at 628 Center Ave.
It was reported about 4:40 p.m. and firefighters from Verona, Oakmont and Penn Hills responded.
Verona fire Chief Dan Tihey said someone was working on the roof when he noticed smoke coming from a vent. The worker went to the attic and found it was filled with smoke.
Tihey said someone lives on the second floor and was not home at the time of the fire. It is unclear if they will be staying with friends or family, or when the person would be able to return home.
“We had no issues getting a water supply and getting an attack started,” Tihey said. “The only issue was when crews got inside to access the attic they found a double ceiling, so they had a hard time getting access up into the attic. There was a ceiling that was built with the house. They renovated at some point in time and built another framed ceiling.”
Crews began clearing the scene around 6 p.m.
Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
