A Christmas brunch was held by Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church Hall in Verona and at Our Lady of Joy Church Hall in Plum on Christmas morning. Because of the pandemic, this was the first time since 2019 that the brunch was held in-house.

In 2020 and 2021, brunch deliveries were made to more than 200 people each year. This year, the bitter cold, biting winds and swirling snow did not discourage guests from attending. More than 140 meals were served or delivered at the two locations.

More than 100 volunteers from all five Holy Family Parish churches — along with a few volunteers from other local churches — participated by decorating, cooking, baking, serving, organizing, greeting, shuttling guests, directing traffic, cleaning up, providing entertainment for the in-house brunches, and then packaging and delivering meals to homebound.

Guests were treated to a buffet of sausage, ham, quiche, scrambled eggs, potatoes, fruit, rolls, pastries, and 100 dozen cookies made by the bakers in the parish’s cookie ministry.

Sixty-four guests enjoyed the brunch and were entertained by a visit with Santa and holiday music. Candy and gift certificates were given out as prizes. Fifteen people picked up meals for take-out and volunteers delivered sixty-four meals to people who are homebound.

The Christmas brunch at both locations is supported by generous gifts of certificates, candy, pastries and cookies. Because of the abundant provisions, after all were served, the remaining food and goodies were shared with the Allegheny County Warming Centers, Jubilee Kitchen and Riverview Community Action Corporation.
