Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh hosts virtual wildlife baby shower
Each spring, hundreds of wildlife babies, some injured and abandoned, arrive at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
In preparation for the new arrivals, and as a way of welcoming them, Humane Animal Rescue is hosting a Wildlife Baby Shower on April 10. Rather than holding an in-person event, the organization is inviting the public to virtually participate in the baby shower and help it stock up on supplies needed to care for the young animals.
Gifts and monetary contributions for the rehabilitation center will ensure the smallest animals get the care they need, according to Katie Kefalos, senior clinic manager.
“While our Baby Shower is virtual this year to ensure everyone’s safety, our need is just as great,” said Kefalos. “Support from the public is vital to our efforts to give the hundreds of baby wildlife, from raccoons and bunnies to squirrels and owlets, the chance to survive and thrive.”
The public is being asked to donate supplies, including common grocery store items such as paper towels, canned mixed fruit, and unsalted nuts. Other specialty items include digital kitchen scales, knitted nests and pruned tree branches.
Items can be dropped off at the group’s East Side (6929 Hamilton Ave.), North Side (1101 Western Ave.) or Wild Side (6000 Verona Road, Penn Hills) locations or donors can select items from an Amazon Wish List for delivery to the wildlife center.
In celebration of the Wildlife Baby Shower, Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh will share special programming via Facebook Live from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10.
Photos and video of wildlife center animals are available upon request.
