Bus trip

Beulah Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a trip Aug. 15-16 to Lancaster to see two productions: “Moses” at Lancaster Sight and Sound and “Guys N Dolls” at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. Cost is $487 per person, based on a double occupancy room. Trip cost includes two shows, two dinners, one breakfast, one night at the Country Inn of Lancaster, and the roundtrip bus ride.

Tuesday departure is 8 a.m. from Beulah Church; estimated return is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. To sign up, make check payable to Beulah Presbyterian Church and mail to Beulah Church, 2500 McCrady Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. Deadline is June 11.

Senior tax discount being considered

Penn Hills School District officials pledged to look into creating a 5% real estate tax discount for senior citizens for the 2024-25 school year. School board president Erin Vecchio proposed the idea at a meeting April 26. She said there will be no tax increase in next school year’s budget. The district’s 2023-24 preliminary budget will be presented at a special meeting May 17. Its formal adoption is expected to be June 24.

Plant sale

The Crescent Hills Park Plant Sale Fundraiser, featuring annuals and a limited number of perennials, will be held from 9 a.m.-noon May 20 at the park, 141 Sycamore Drive in Penn Hills. Cash only. Proceeds benefit the Crescent Hills Community Park.

Meet the candidates

Primary election candidates who are running without a party endorsement will be at Penn Hills Library from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. May 6 for a meet and greet. Candidates for school board, mayor and council will be in attendance.

Penn Hills Arbor Day

Join the Penn Hills Shade Tree Commission for the free and family-friendly Penn Hills Arbor Day Celebration at the William McKinley Center, 801 Seventh St. in Verona, from 2-4 p.m. May 6 (rain date May 7). We will plant 15 trees around the new playground, give away native tree and shrub seedlings, have nature crafts for the kids, provide refreshments, give an update on the spotted lanternfly and celebrate Penn Hills being recognized as a Tree City USA for the fourth year in a row. Bring your own chair and a shovel if you want to help plant trees. More information on all upcoming projects is available at PennHillsSTC.org.

PALS

Plum Area Ladies Society is a service /social club open to women from Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville, and surrounding communities. The annual banquet will be held at Jaden’s II from 2-6 p.m. May 13. Newcomers are always welcome at monthly meetings, held at 6:30 at Plum Community Center on the first Wednesday of the month, September through April.
