Leaf and yard composting program
Penn Hills’s final collection of leaves, garden residue (flowers and plants with no roots attached), and small shrubbery and tree trimmings (less than a half inch in diameter, no roots), will be on Dec. 5. Bags must be placed curbside on Sunday evenings. Acceptable items can also be dropped off at the compost site by appointment with Public Works. Call 412-798-2151 for an appointment. Lunch with Santa
Head to Rolling Hills Church in Verona on Dec. 3 for a pizza lunch with Santa. Two time slots are available — 11 a.m.-noon or 12:30-1:30 p.m. Admission is free but registration is required by calling 412-798-2147.
Holiday Light Display
Cruise through the Penn Hills Government Center’s parking lot between 6-7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 to see holiday lights, Santa, Rudolph and the elves. Register to get a free treat bag for each child by calling 412-798-2147 by Nov. 28. Bring an unopened, unwrapped toy for the Stuff-A-Truck fundraiser and a chance to win one of three $100 Visa gift cards. For more information, visit pennhillspa.gov.
Letters to Santa
Children can drop off letters to Santa through Dec. 16 at Penn Hills Library. They can also be mailed to 1-2 Duff Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 or emailed to santa@pennhills.org. Please include a return address in the letters.
Christmas lights display contest
It’s time to get festive! Enter the contest by calling 412-798-2147 or emailing jscaglione@pennhills.org. Judging takes place Dec. 19-21. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated houses.
Adopt a senior
Concordia Lutheran Ministries has again opened its Adopt-A-Resident Program to the community.
Individuals, businesses or congregations may call the facility of their choice to “adopt” a resident and give him or her Christmas gifts. Gift suggestions include a sweatshirt, sweatpants, door wreath, stamps and stationery, digital clocks with large numbers, hair salon gift certificates, slippers and slipper socks and throws or blankets.

Symphony East Holiday luncheon and program
The public is invited to attend the annual Symphony East “Sounds of Joy” Holiday Luncheon on Dec. 12 at the Lamplighter Restaurant in Delmont. Festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a holiday basket raffle. A special buffet luncheon will be served at 11:45 a.m. Live entertainment by renowned Pittsburgh vocalist Judi Figel with David Crisci on the keyboard will begin at 1 p.m.
