AARP

Plum AARP will hold its Christmas Party at Jaden’s II on Dec. 12, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The entertainment will be The G Boys.

Plum AARP is a social club open to residents of Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville and surrounding communities. Each meeting offers free cake and coffee/tea and a program — entertainment or speaker. The club offers an annual Christmas party, May luncheon, and August social. One-day and overnight trips are available through Thomas Tours and Louise Grassi Tours, whose representatives present trip info at the meetings. AARP welcomes newcomers to its regular meetings, held on the second Tuesday of each month at Unity Community Church, beginning at noon. For further info, call Mary Lou at 724-327-8265.

Upcoming meetings

Penn Hills council will have a non-voting meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 in council chambers at the Penn Hills Government Center. A voting meeting will take place at the same location at 7 p.m. Dec. 18.

Verona council meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at the borough office.

Penn Hills zoning hearing board will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 in council chambers at the Penn Hills Government Center.

Penn Hills planning commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 in council chambers at the Penn Hills Government Center.

Rotary scholarship

The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program announces the availability of scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year. In recent years, at least eight scholarships of $5,000 each have been awarded. High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply. Vocational students, GED students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools are also eligible.

Students must have a 2.5 or higher grade point average and must complete an essay that highlights their community/school service as part of the application submission.

Free Christmas brunch

No plans for Christmas Day? Please join Holy Family Parish in Oakmont, Penn Hills, Plum, Verona and the surrounding area for a free brunch on Christmas Day. The free brunch will be held from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at one of two parish locations: St. Joseph Church Hall, 825 Second St. in Verona, or Our Lady of Joy Church Hall, 2000 O’Block Road in Plum.

Free Christmas dinner

Don’t eat alone on Christmas, join us for a Christmas community dinner Dec. 25 at Christ the Divine Shepherd Church, Lourdes Center, 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville from 12:30-3 p.m. (or until the food is gone).
