Veteran’s Day service
Redeemer Lutheran School will hold its annual Veterans Day service at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 10 at its new high school campus, 121 Dawn Drive in Penn Hills. All who have served and continue to serve in our nation’s military are encouraged to join. After the service, guests are invited to enjoy a light brunch and assist students in preparing gift bags to send to active duty troops around the world. RSVPs are encouraged. Parks closed
Penn Hills municipal parks and ball fields are closed for the season. Restroom facilities are also closed for the season. Parks may still be used on a walk-in basis. Please do not block park entrance gates. The Penn Hills Dog Park will remain open through Nov. 30 (weather permitting).
Parks & Recreation is accepting pavilion rental requests for the 2024 parks season. Call 412-798-2147 to check availability.
Offices closed
Penn Hills municipal offices will be closed Nov. 10 in recognition of Veterans Day, and Nov. 23-24 for Thanksgiving.
Spaghetti dinner
Rotary Club of Penn Hills is hosting a spaghetti dinner featuring homemade meatballs and sauce by Grazia Tomasino on Nov. 9 at Mt. Hope Church, 12106 Frankstown Road. Dine in or takeout.

AARP
Plum AARP will hold its monthly meeting at noon on Nov. 14 at Unity Community Church. The program will be William Jeffcoat of Life Changing Service Dogs for Veterans, accompanied by a veteran and a service dog, explaining the mission of his organization. Members may donate to the fund for Christmas gifts for Veterans at the V.A. in Aspinwall. Tickets for the Christmas Party at Jaden’s 2 will be on sale for $30. Also, a representative from Thomas Tours will be at the meeting to announce information on future trips.
Plum AARP is a social/service club open to residents of Plum, Penn Hills, New Kensington, Monroeville, and surrounding areas. The organization meets on the second Tuesday of each month September through June at noon at Unity Community Church. There is a speaker or entertainment at nearly every meeting, following the business meeting and free cake and coffee/tea. AARP also hosts a Christmas party, a May luncheon, and a summer social each year, and serves a hot dog /chips/cake luncheon twice a year. Furthermore, there is an opportunity to sign up for day or overnight or longer trips through Thomas Tours or Louise Grassi Tours. Newcomers are welcome at meetings. Thanksgiving dinner
Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish is sponsoring a free Thanksgiving dinner for those who otherwise would eat alone on the holiday. Located at 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville, the church will serve dinner in the Lourdes Center from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. or until the food is gone on Nov. 23.
Fall leaf collection
Penn Hills will collect leaves, garden residue (flowers and plants with no roots attached), and shrubbery and tree trimmings less than a half-inch in diameter (no roots). Paper bags should be placed curbside on Sunday nights prior to the collection dates of Nov. 13, 20 and 27 and Dec. 4. The items can also be dropped off at the compost site by appointment with public works, 412-798-2151.

• Penn Hills zoning hearing board will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in council chambers at the Penn Hills Government Center.
• Penn Hills planning commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in council chambers at the Penn Hills Government Center.
• Penn Hills will hold budget hearings at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 and Nov. 27 in council chambers at the Penn Hills Government Center.
