The eastbound Interstate 376 ramp to Penn Hills, which is Exit 81, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, for asphalt paving.

PennDOT’s posted detour is to take Exit 80, which is the Monroeville/Buisness Route 22 off-ramp, and turn left at the light on Rodi Road.

The paving work is part of the $70.1 million Parkway East Betterment Project, which is expected to conclude in fall 2026.

Swank Construction Co. is the prime contractor for the 4.5 miles of improvements between Churchill/Route 130 (Exit 79B) and Monroeville/Route 48 (Exit 84A).

The project will include a superstructure replacement over Old William Penn Highway, two bridge rehabilitations over Old William Penn Highway/Lougeay Road/Sunset Drive and Thompson Run Road/Thompson Run/Union Railroad, and six bridge preservations along Interstate 376.

Motorists will experience long-term single-lane restrictions, several weekends with traffic down to a single lane and a long-term crossover in 2025.

To keep motorists informed as the work progresses, PennDOT established an email distribution list for Parkway East traffic advisories and construction updates. People can enroll by sending their email address to ymanyisha@pa.gov and writing “Subscribe — Parkway East” in the subject line.

Updates also are available on the I-376 Parkway East — Churchill to Monroeville webpage, by following PennDOT’s regional X page @511PAPittsburgh or by joining the Greater Pittsburgh Area PennDOT Facebook group.
