Penn-Plum VFW Post 6836 lost an estimated $12,000 in a break-in July 15.

Penn Hills police are investigating a break-in at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post that caused an estimated $12,000 in losses and damages.

Detective Teresa Gongaware said police learned July 15 that multiple poker machines were smashed and two safes were taken from Penn-Plum VFW Post 6836. The post is officially in Penn Hills.

According to Chief Ronald Como, the break-in happened overnight July 14 into July 15, with one or more thieves likely forcing entry through the front door. There are no suspects at this time.

Como advised all bars — not just VFWs — to take cash home at the end of the night.
