A woman was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after her vehicle crashed through the front of a Wilkins tavern, police said.

The woman lost control of her vehicle, and crashed into the front wall of Carl’s Tavern, a popular eatery on William Penn Highway, an employee told the Tribune-Review. The woman, who appeared to be around 50 years old, was unconscious after crashing her SUV through the wall around 12:30 p.m.

Nobody inside Carl’s was injured, the employee said.

Wilkins police had little information about the accident Thursday afternoon. Sgt. Jason Cyprowski said a police report had not been filed, and could not provide an update on the driver’s condition.

The restaurant staff was playful about the accident Thursday on social media.

“We are still open for normal business hours today!” they wrote on Facebook. “These windows are also now open”

Carl’s — known for its fish sandwiches and Carl burger — was founded in Braddock and opened in Wilkins in 1967. It was remodeled in 2012.
