Allegheny County reports 45 new covid-19 cases, matching highest total in nearly 2 months
Allegheny County on Wednesday reported 45 new covid-19 cases, matching the number of new cases reported on Monday, and five new deaths.
On Tuesday, the county reported 19 new covid-19 cases.
The 45 cases reported Monday and Wednesday were the highest daily totals reported in nearly two months. During a Monday news briefing county officials expressed concern about the increase in new cases, citing out-of-state traveling and people lowering their guard after the state eased lockdown restrictions as reasons for the jump. They asked people to remain vigilant, wear masks and practice social distancing.
Wednesday’s new case count brings Allegheny County’s total number of covid-19 cases to 2,284. Of those, 2,146 are confirmed and 138 are probable.
The five new deaths reported Wednesday brings the total number of coronavirus-related deaths to 184, county health officials said. Of those, 172 are confirmed to be linked to the coronavirus and 12 are probable.
The county also reported two more coronavirus-related hospitalizations, bringing the total number to 372.
