The story of Alexander Hamilton was brought to life on Friday as more than 2,500 students from the region were given the opportunity to attend a special matinee performance of “Hamilton” at the Benedum after spending weeks in their classrooms learning about the statesman and other Founding Fathers.

The students, from more than 40 regional schools, took part in the Hamilton Education Program—an effort from the Gilder Lehrman Institute in partnership with the Miranda family and “Hamilton” producers to improve the teaching and learning of American history. In the weeks leading up to the show, the students had been studying American history through a special integrated curriculum.

Before the matinee, students from some of the participating schools performed orginal works based on their studies. A question and answer session with “Hamilton” cast members also was held.

During the 2018-19 season, the Hamilton Education Program will visit a total of 14 cities. Tickets for the performances are only $10 for students.
