Duquesne Light hires its first chief diversity officer

Duquesne Light announced Thursday the creation of a new diversity strategy with the company’s first chief diversity officer: Sara Oliver-Carter. She starts Aug. 19.
Oliver-Carter will focus on company culture, community partnerships and diversifying the suppliers with which Duquesne Light partners.
“Our commitment to diversity and inclusion and its importance to our company, employees, customers and communities is unwavering,” Steve Malnight, Duquesne Light president and CEO, said in a statement.
“Sara brings exceptional leadership experience and her approach to creating a company culture that truly values the uniqueness of its employees, customers and suppliers will add tremendous value as we continue to expand programs and initiatives in this critical area.”
Oliver-Carter has more than 20 years of experience in human resources. According to her LinkedIn account, Oliver-Carter served as senior director for talent and diversity and inclusion for Penn State University since 2017. Before Penn State, Oliver-Carter worked in various human resources positions at Highmark, including vice president of diversity and inclusion.
Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Duquesne Light has nearly 1,500 employees and serves roughly 600,000 customers in Allegheny and Beaver counties.
