Senior citizens living in Allegheny County are eligible to receive free locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables through the annual Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
The program provides residents 60 years and older with $20 in checks to purchase produce grown in Pennsylvania at participating farmers markets.
The checks will be distributed Tuesday by the Area Agency on Aging senior center network on a first come, first serve basis. They can be spent through Nov. 30.
Residents who are eligible but unable to get to a senior center may designate someone to pick up and redeem the checks.
To be eligible, you must:
• Be an Allegheny County resident
• Be 60 or older before December 31, 2019
• Not live in a residential facility providing meals
• Meet the income requirements of $23,107 annual gross income for a one-person household and $31,284 for a two-person household.
