Standard Market and Pint House hopes to ‘raise Pittsburgh’s standard of dining’

A dormant spot in Downtown Pittsburgh’s version of restaurant row is reopening as a new venue looking to capitalize on the emerging trend of self-serve beer.
The Standard Market and Pint House will open in the spring in a newly renovated space in the Courtyard by Marriott hotel first occupied by the popular Sonoma Grille. It later transitioned to Le Lyonnais, which closed in May 2018.
The new restaurant is taking what its owners call “a fresh new approach” to dining – opening at 6 a.m. to serve locally sourced coffee and “handcrafted” breakfast sandwiches, and staying open into the wee hours with a full bar.
From lunch service on, the space will resemble a pint house featuring 45 tap beers, including self-serve taps, from local breweries, and locally distilled and crafted liquor. It will also offer a sit-down menu offering “nutritious, yet fulfilling options created with locally sourced ingredients.”
“We wanted to raise Pittsburgh’s standard of dining,” said Troy Goldman, vice president of operations for the AMPD Restaurant Group, which includes Steel Cactus in five locations in the region and Ten Penny across Penn Avenue from the Standard. “Our carefully curated menu has the perfect balance of unique flavors and ingredients married together in culinary bliss. It’s like having your (perfectly balanced) cake and eating it too.”
These items include a Power Up Bowl with kale, pea shoots, Medjool dates, blueberries, Grana Padano cheese, and a charred lemon vinaigrette and “disheveled sweet potato” topped with Irish herb butter, cranberry, hazelnut, lime, aioli, and chives.
