Valerie Menke, 11, and Nikki Ebner, 11, both from Wexford, braved single-digit temperatures during a day off from school on Martin Luther King Day at North Park Ice Rink on Jan. 21.

It’s time to sharpen up your blades.

The Allegheny County Parks Department said the North Park and South Park ice rinks are scheduled to open Friday.

The 2019-2020 ice skating season will run through mid-March, weather permitting.

Both rinks will have Family Skate Fridays from 4:30 to 7 p.m. During those times, two adults and up to four children up to age 17 can skate for $10 per family for Allegheny County residents and $13 per family for nonresidents.

Both rinks also will offer free and paid ice skating lessons for ages 3 and over as well as developmental hockey leagues for ages 4-12.

For information about the North Park and South Park ice rinks, visit www.alleghenycounty.us/skating or call 412-350-2455.
