Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh to close for 2 months in response to coronavirus

The Omni William Penn Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh will close for a little more than two months in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

An emailed statement from Peter Strebel, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts, said the hotel will suspend operations Monday and stay closed through at least June 1.

“Like many hotels, we’ve felt the impact and made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend operations,” Strebel said. “Our intent is to reopen the hotel as quickly as possible, although we will reassess each week. Our associates are the heart of our business and we’re working diligently to minimize the impact for them. We are thankful for the continued support from our guests and family of associates and know we will weather this storm and come out much stronger.”

Signs posted on the reflective doors of the Omni on Saturday stated that entry was limited to registered guests only, and the parking lots of many hotels around the city were nearly empty, including the Sheraton at Station Square and Marriott on the North Shore.
