The owner of a social club in Penn Hills was shot once in the stomach after he refused to let a nonmember in his establishment, police said Tuesday.
Barry White, owner of the White Hawk Cafe along Universal Road, is expected to recover after being transported to a local hospital, said Penn Hills police Chief Howard Burton. The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. Tuesday, Burton said.
“It’s a private club there,” Burton said of White Hawk Cafe. “So they’re allowed to stay open until 4 a.m. A guy came in; the owner confronted him and asked to see his ID card. He looked underage. Mr. White escorted him out of the bar and told him he had to leave. When they were out to the door, he turned around and shot the owner. He was struck in the stomach area.”
Burton said police have yet to identify the shooter.
“We’re still investigating and talking to witnesses,” he said.
