An employee at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh tested positive for the coronavirus, the company said Wednesday.

“Rivers Casino Pittsburgh was informed today that a team member has tested positive for covid-19,” casino officials said in a statement. “Safety protocols put into place for reopening worked as intended, and all notifications are being made in accordance with Pennsylvania Health Department guidelines.”

The case comes about a week after the casino’s June 9 reopening, following nearly 90 days of closure.

The company instituted some restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus, including additional cleaning time, mask requirements and social distancing rules.

Every other seat has been removed from slot machines to create more distance, and plexiglass dividers have been added between popular machines and betting kiosks, in front of restaurants and other service desks. Players are limited at game tables like blackjack and roulette.

Casino officials did not say where in the facility the employee who tested positive works, or the last time they reported for work.

“In addition to property-wide sanitizing, all team members have worn face coverings since the casino reopened on June 9, and team members reporting any symptoms or a temperature above 100.4 degrees must get tested before returning to work,” the casino’s statement continues.
