Smokey Robinson to take part in Neighborhood Academy fundraiser in Pittsburgh
Legendary singer-songwriter, record producer and record executive Smokey Robinson will appear at a wine tasting fundraiser for The Neighborhood Academy on Monday, Dec. 9.
All of the proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for students of the academy, said development director Sheila Rawlings. A total of 142 students from around the Pittsburgh area in grades 6-12 attend The Neighborhood Academy in Stanton Heights.
“We are very excited that Smokey has accepted our invitation to meet the students here and help us raise scholarship dollars,” Rawlings said.
She said the event is open to the public — “anyone who would like an evening of wine tasting and fun with Smokey Robinson.”
Rawlings said all guests will have an opportunity to sample three wines in the Smokey Robinson line. Each of the Smokey Robinson Wines that will be available are named after songs he has sung over the years, including a “My Girl Red Wine” and a “Being with You Pinot Noir.”
Founded in 2001, The Neighborhood Academy is a private, faith-based college preparatory school with a mission to break the cycle of generational poverty.
VIP tickets for the event cost $200. General admission is $150. For more information on the event, go to theneighborhoodacademy.org/events/smokey.cfm
