South Hills forum will explore 'The Problem with Plastics'
The Izaak Walton League of America’s Allegheny County chapter will host an April 30 forum that will explore personal and political solutions to the issues plastics recycling has begun to present.
“The Problem With Plastics and What We Can Do About It” is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills, 1240 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon.
According to a 2018 United Nations report, 90.5 percent of the plastic waste generated in the world has not been recycled. And, as plastic in the environment breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces, chemical compounds like Bisphenol A leach into streams and rivers, where fish mistake it for food, and it contaminates drinking water supplies.
Speakers at the forum will include University of Pittsburgh professor Nick Coles and activist Dianne Peterson.
There is no cost to attend and the forum is open to the public.
