State Rep. Lori Mizgorski has been appointed by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai to serve on the Port Authority of Allegheny County’s board of directors.
Mizgorski, R-Shaler, will replace Robert Vescio, who was appointed to the board in 2015 and works for Cohen & Grigsby in Downtown Pittsburgh.
“After serving in local government for nine years, I know how important our public transportation is and the critical role it plays for our residents who rely upon it most. I am eager to take on this new role,” Mizgorski said in a statement.
Mizgorski was elected to her first term in office in 2018. She serves the 30th Legislative District which includes Fox Chapel, Hampton and Richland and portions of O’Hara and Shaler. She worked as chief of staff for her predecessor, former Rep. Hal English. She has served as a commissioner in Shaler, where she was chair of the Public Works Committee, a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee and a delegate to the North Hills Council of Governments.
Mizgorski was not available for comment Monday.
The board of directors is made up of 11 unpaid, volunteer members who are appointed by the Allegheny County executive, both parties in the state legislature and the governor.
This is the second shakeup of the board this month. On April 11, Gov. Tom Wolf removed and replaced Robert Kania following calls to do so from regional transit advocacy groups. Wolf named Jessica Walls-Lavelle, the governor’s southwestern Regional Director, an interim appointee to replace Kania.
Correction: This story has been corrected to state that Rep. Lori Mizgorski is serving her first term as a state representative. She was elected to that office in 2018.
