Pittsburgh zoo’s Penguins on Parade starts Saturday
Residents can literally chill out with some penguins during the Pittsburgh Zoo’s Penguins on Parade, which starts Saturday and is held every weekend while the temperature stays under 45 degrees.
Timing is important as the Penguins Parade starts at 11:30 a.m. sharp every Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting, outside of the zoo’s PPG Aquarium.
The annual tradition apparently is as interesting to the birds as to the spectators, Jessica Ries, penguin keeper at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, said in a press release.
The birds are naturally curious and the opportunity to venture outside to see and hear new sights and sounds is great enrichment for the birds, according to Ries.
“I think the penguins have more fun than we do,” she said.
The zoo’s newest penguin chick, Iggy, will lead the other penguins for their stroll outside of the aquarium.
Penguins on Parade is included with general admission into the Zoo. Visitors should call ahead 412-665-3640 or visit the zoo’s website to check for cancellations.
