A McKees Rocks woman jumped to her death in the Monongahela River on Friday evening after stopping her car on the Homestead Grays Bridge with three children inside, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office and Pittsburgh police.

Chris Togneri, spokesman for Pittsburgh Public Safety, said the initial investigation indicates that “the woman stopped her vehicle in traffic on the bridge and went to the railing. Police discovered three children, between the ages of 1 and 9, still in the vehicle.”

The medical examiner said witnesses reported seeing Stanlee Allyn Holbrook, 26, jump from the bridge.

Togneri said emergency responders were alerted to a report of a woman on the outer bridge railing around 7:20 p.m. Holbrook’s body was recovered about two hours later.

The children, although unharmed, were taken to a hospital for evaluation. They will be turned over to Allegheny County Children, Youth and Family Services.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the children were hers.

Two lanes on the bridge were closed for about an hour while police investigated.
