Pittsburgh police: Stolen dump truck hits vehicles in Shadyside, 1 hurt

One person was injured and several vehicles damaged when a stolen landscaping dump truck plowed into up to four cars Tuesday afternoon in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood.

The incident began shortly before 3 p.m. when Pittsburgh police responded to reports of a landscaping company dump truck being stolen from the 4900 block of Rosetta Street.

Company employees saw a man get into the truck and speed away. The workers followed it in a pickup truck.

Police working in the area saw the saw the stolen dump truck hit the four vehicles at Centre Avenue and S. Graham Street. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz, officers chose not to pursue the stolen truck out of concern for the public’s safety.

The dump truck was found unoccupied a short distance away. Police are searching for the suspect, who fled on foot.

A woman driving one of the vehicles that was struck by the dump truck suffered minor injuries and evaluated by medics at the scene. No pedestrians were struck or injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
