A Pittsburgh police officer deployed a Taser on a man after a domestic incident early Monday in the city’s North Side.

Police said they were dispatched around 7:45 a.m. to the 2100 block of Rhine Street in Pittsburgh’s Spring Hill-City View neighborhood.

A man — who police later identified as Jason Owens, 24, of Pittsburgh — refused to open the door to a house when officers arrived, police said. The suspect had an existing warrant against him.

Police said the man then jumped out the window of the home and ran away.

“He was ultimately Tased and taken into custody more than 45 minutes later,” near the intersection of Royal and Gershon streets, a spokeswoman said in an online post.

St. Boniface Catholic Church, which stands near the intersection, is less than a mile away from Rhine Street.

Paramedics took the man to an area hospital to be cleared medically, police said.

A woman at the scene of the domestic incident declined medical treatment.

Owens is charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention on foot, disorderly conduct and flight to avoid apprehension, trial or punishment.

He is being held in Allegheny County Jail and was unable to post bail, which is set at $20,000, according to online court records.
