Raffle baskets benefit causes

John Anthony’s Restaurant will host a fundraising event aimed at supporting two charitable causes, the Remember Me Rose Garden, a living tribute to the heroes of 9/11 Flight 93, and the Beach Dog Rescue of Costa Maya.

The event, featuring baskets to be raffled, is scheduled to run from Aug. 11-19, with ticket drawings taking place at 7 p.m. the final day. Supporters interested in participating can purchase tickets during regular business hours at John Anthony’s , 115 Center New Texas Road, Plum.

An appearance by the owner of Beach Dog Rescue is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 18. She will be accompanied by Ragnar, one of her Xolo (hairless ancient Aztec breed) dogs, offering an opportunity for meet and greets. On Aug. 19, members of the Remember Me Rose Garden will be present to help conclude the event.

Those wishing to contribute a completed raffle basket can do so before Aug. 9 by dropping it off at the restaurant.

Plum road closure

Another road in Plum is closed for slide repair.

PennDOT announced Thursday that Milltown Road between Shearer and Barnes roads was scheduled to close July 31 and remain shut down through late September.

Crews from A. Liberoni are doing the work, which includes repairing the slide, installing a wall and paving. Traffic will be detoured.

Plum Class of ’73 reunion

Plum High School Class of 1973 will hold its 50-year reunion starting at 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Lighthouse Marina, 799 Industrial Blvd., New Kensington.

Price is $30 per person. RSVP by Aug. 19.

Toys for Tots collection

The Verona Volunteer Fire Company is preparing for its third annual Christmas In July Toy Drive, benefitting the Allegheny Valley Marine Corps League 827 Toys For Tots.

The company will be collecting toys at the station from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5, when a spaghetti dinner and open house also is scheduled. For more information, visit veronavfc.org.

Ramparts- Peppertree sale

The Ramparts-Peppertree neighborhood is hosting its annual garage/yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 12.

Ramparts is located in Plum, with two entrances providing access to the neighborhood. For a list of participating homes, visit 313 Tionesta Drive.
