Homecoming events at Plum

Plum High School’s Homecoming bonfire is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 12 at 900 Elicker Road.

The event precedes the following night’s football game vs. Penn-Trafford, and the Homecoming dance is at 7 p.m. Oct. 14.

Fall craft festival

Plum Creek Lodge 799 Masonic Hall will host a fall craft festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at 9521 Saltsburg Road, Plum.

Musician entertains AARP

Plum AARP will hold its monthly meeting at noon Oct. 10 at Unity Community Church, 215 Unity Trestle Road. Hot dogs and chips will be sold for $2, and cake and coffee provided for free.

The program for the meeting will be Steve Schindler, performing music of the 1960s through ’80s. A representative from Thomas Tours will be available to announce upcoming trips, and John Kutzner will begin to accept monetary donations for Christmas gifts for VA Hospital patients.

Plum AARP is a social/service club that meets the second Tuesday of each month except in June, providing a program of speakers or entertainment at each meeting. For more information, call Mary Lou at 724 327-8265.

Health and senior fair

State Rep. Joe McAndrew, D-Penn Hills, invites the public to a health and senior fair from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 12 at the Greek Orthodox Social Hall, 12 Washington Ave., Oakmont.

The free event features services and resources for older residents, including flu and pneumonia shots, covid vaccines and boosters, and blood pressure screenings.

Cleaning program continues

Murrysville Cleaners is extending its free cleaning program for the victims of the Rustic Ridge neighborhood in Plum.

Within a few days of the Aug. 12 explosion in the neighborhood that killed six people and devastated nearby properties, Murrysville Cleaners started offering free services for community residents. The company will continue to do so until the end of October.

If you know anyone affected by the tragedy that needs assistance, call the company at 724-327-6400.

Peace of Mind Workshop

Burket-Truby Funeral Home will host a Peace of Mind Workshop at 10 a.m. Nov. 9, open to anyone who is interested.

Topics include five steps to funeral planning, estate planning, preplanning and prefunding, and emotional and financial benefits of planning funerals in advance.
