Plum school board considering drone policy
The Plum School Board is considering a new policy governing the use of drones on district property.
Under the proposed policy, the use of any non-district owned or operated drones for any purpose would be prohibited on district property.
School employees and students may be allowed to use drones on district property for educational purposes only with permission of a teacher or principal. Community groups would be required to get approval from the superintendent or a designee in writing before using a drone.
Drone operators would have to comply with FAA requirements and provide proof of compliance and their experience. Drones would have to stay within line of sight of pilots.
Drones would not be allowed to be flown over any interscholastic practice, game, match or other contest.
Students and employees who operate drones on or over district property without authorization could face disciplinary action. Those on school property or operating a drone above school property in violation of the policy would be treated as trespassers.
Plum upgrading high school cafeteria, locker rooms
The Plum School Board has approved buying new seating for the high school cafeteria, and upgrades to the locker rooms.
The district will pay P.E.M. Co. about $159,000 for new cafeteria seating.
The locker room upgrades, from Equiparts Corp., will cost about $50,000.
The locker room work will include installing dividers and doors that will do away with the communal showers, which Superintendent Rick Walsh said are a “thing of the past.”
The district will look into doing the same at the middle and elementary schools, he said.
