Fall Fest 2023

Plum’s annual Fall Fest will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Plum Creek Park on Ross Hollow Road.

The event is free and for borough residents only.

Kids activities will include a pumpkin patch, games, arts and crafts, and pony rides. There also will be craft beers.

The pumpkin patch was limited to the first 500 children and is already full.

Fall craft festival

Plum Creek Lodge 799 Masonic Hall will host a fall craft festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 at 9521 Saltsburg Road, Plum.

Free flu clinic

Free flu vaccines will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the Plum Municipal Center, 2000 Old Mine Road.

Participants must be 18 or older. Supplies are limited.

No appointment is necessary.

Hydrant flushing

The Plum Borough Municipal Authority will be flushing fire hydrants through Dec. 1.

Water may be discolored while crews are flushing hydrants. Residents should test the water before doing laundry or drawing large amounts of water during this time.

Any discoloration usually clears within one to two hours. If water is discolored longer, contact the authority office at 412-793-7331 for help.

No work will be done on weekends.

Public hearings

Plum Council will hold three public hearings beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2 in council chambers at the municipal center, 2000 Old Mine Road.

A hearing will be held on a request from PTV 1298 for conditional use approval to build a Dollar General store on Saltsburg Road at Clements Road.

The second hearing is a request from the Sampson Family YMCA for conditional use approval for the use of synthetic turf fields for commercial outdoor recreation at 2200 Golden Mile Highway.

In the third hearing, Ugine Amuche is seeking conditional use approval for vehicle sales and auto repair and service at 1950 Greensburg Road.

Applications are available for public view at the borough office.

Ladies society meeting set

The Plum Area Ladies Society’s monthly meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Plum Community Center. Colleen from Silver Sneakers will lecture on fall prevention and safer ways to fall.

The service project is to donate personal hygiene items to Westmoreland Project Head Start. Needed items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, combs, deodorant (for both men and women) bubble bath, children’s socks and underwear. Paper products and cash are also being collected for the Plum Food Pantry.

The Ladies Day Out will be an outdoor walking guided tour of the Depreciation Lands Museum, a colonial-era living history village in Hampton, at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 15. The $10 donation for the tour can be paid at the meeting.

The theme for refreshments and friendship basket will be “A Taste of Fall.”

PALS is a service/social club open to women from Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville, and surrounding communities. Newcomers are welcome at meetings, which are the first Wednesday of each month.

Trunk or treat

Penn Hills Masonic Lodge (Infinity Lodge No. 546) is partnering with Verona’s Masonic Lodge (Verona Lodge No. 548) to host a Trunk-or-Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Penn Hills Masonic Center, 5793 Saltsburg Road.
