Popular Pittsburgh comedian Aaron Kleiber is joining forces with one of the area’s classic venues when he hosts a comedy party Sept. 18 at the Oaks Theater in Oakmont.
The local comedy star brings numerous accolades, such as being named “Best Local Comedian” by multiple area publications, including “Pittsburgh Magazine.” His blend of insights into fatherhood and the married life has made him a sought-after opening performer at the national level.
Kleiber has appeared alongside well-known acts such as Bob Saget, Jim Bruer, Harland Williams, Ralphie May and Steve-O. He has been able to parlay his popularity on the touring circuit into televised appearances on “Gotham Comedy Live,” “Standup and Deliver,” and recently was the star of his own one-hour special airing on Amazon Prime titled “Grown @%$ Dad,” which has accumulated more than 500,000 listens, including streams on Spotify, Pandora and Sirius XM.
The 40-year-old Kleiber is a graduate of Steel Valley High School, where he got his start performing in shows and producing comedy sketches and short films. He has since used that experience to earn 23 credits in the film industry as an actor, most notably “Judas and the Black Messiah” in 2021, “One Dollar” in 2018 and “Warrior” in 2011.
He also carries multiple credits as both a writer and a producer, and his podcast “Grown Dad Business” has more than 200 episodes and has garnered more than a millions streams, making the Western Pennsylvania native a major player on the comedy circuit across the country.
Kleiber was also a popular performer during some time spent out west, making appearances at the Hollywood Improv and Jimmy Kimmels’ Comedy Club in Las Vegas, while also making media appearances locally in Pittsburgh, including the Bubba Show on 100.7-FM and on Pittsburgh Live Today.
“We absolutely love people who started out in Pittsburgh to come back once they’ve made it big and have them bring their audience to Pittsburgh as a connection,” said Jessica Long, general manager of the Oaks Theater. “He’ll return to the Oaks for a standup showcase featuring some of his own personal favorite comedians, complete with beatboxing and hilarious hypeman Kidmental. It’s a one-of-a-kind show that’s half standup and half party,” she said.
The Oaks is a good venue for Kleiber, as the “Jewel of Oakmont” has revamped itself into one of the area’s best places to see a show after getting its start as strictly a movie theater in 1936.
After some changes in 2015, the Oaks now features two full bars, a lounge area surrounding a 360-degree bar, and a food menu with platform table service in addition to standard seating, making it one of the more unique live venues in Pittsburgh.
“We have great theater seating, and we also have cafe tables that are close to the bar,” Long said. “We just put in slushy machines, so we’re pretty excited about that. There’s not a bad seat in the house, and we have great sound and lighting here.”
Kleiber will be performing at the Oaks with Sean Collier of WDVE fame, Suzanne Lawrence from Arcade Comedy Theater, Aarik Nesby from Pittsburgh Improv and several other guests to be announced.
Doors for the show open at 6:30 p.m., with the first act going on at 7:30. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at theoakstheater.com or by calling the ticket hotline at 1-888-718-4253.
“There are tickets left,” Long said. “They’re all general admission, and we hope to see you there.”
