Police charge Pittsburgh man with killing housemate
Pittsburgh police have charged a Homewood man with shooting two housemates, one fatally, on Friday night.
Police said Preslin Turner, 36, killed Therreus Lindsey.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. after Turner claimed that someone had been in his room, leading to an argument and fistfight with other residents of the home in the 7200 block of Mount Vernon Street, according to police.
A witness told police that after the fight broke up, Turner said, “I’ll kill all y’all (expletive),” a criminal complaint said.
Turner retrieved a handgun from his third-floor bedroom, shot a man he’d fought with in the back and then shot Lindsey, 27, who was trying to leave a first-floor bedroom, the witness said.
Turner shot Lindsey a second time after Lindsey fell face down, the witness told police.
Lindsey was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other wounded man, whom authorities haven’t named, was taken for surgery at Pittsburgh’s UPMC Presbyterian, where he was listed in critical condition.
Police said the witness reported the shootings to 911, as did Turner, who told dispatchers he’d been assaulted.
City officers took Turner into custody at the home and recovered a gun from him.
During questioning, according to police, Turner said he already had his holstered gun tucked under his shirt when he left his bedroom and went downstairs to confront the two other men about an item of his that was missing.
Turner told police he began fighting with both men. Turner said the men jumped him, began choking him and put him in a headlock, according to the complaint.
Turner claimed he broke free and told investigators he shot the unnamed man once and Lindsey twice — once while Lindsey was lying on the floor.
Turner was arraigned on charges of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person and was placed in the Allegheny County Jail with bail denied.
He faces a preliminary hearing on March 21.
