Officers responding to ShotSpotter gunshot alert in Mt. Washington on Monday found a man suffering from stab wounds before tracking down a suspect who was shot by a witness as he fled the scene, according to Pittsburgh police.
Police from the city’s Zone 3 station responding to the gunshot alert in the 200 block of West Warrington Avenue at about 7:25 a.m. found a man in an apartment building who was stabbed during an altercation with another man, police said.
The victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Investigators did not release the victim’s name.
A neighbor who witnessed the altercation told police he fired at the suspect involved in the stabbing as he fled in his vehicle.
Officers followed the suspect’s vehicle for a short period before abandoning the pursuit. Several hours later police spotted the vehicle again in Mt. Washington and initiated a traffic stop.
The male driver was suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
After he was medically cleared, the suspect was arrested and transported to the Allegheny County Jail. Charges are pending against the suspect, whose name was not released by police.
The incident is being investigated by the Violent Crimes Unit.
