Donations are being accepted to help a malnourished dog abandoned Tuesday in Crescent Township, while a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the canine’s cruel treatment.
According to township police, the female dog, who has received veterinary care through the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, is doing well, but results of a medical evaluation were pending. Police said they were advised by the humane organization that the dog, formerly known as Beans, has been renamed Crescent.
The humane group is accepting donations toward “giving her the care and forever home she needs.” A link for making donations can be found on the Facebook pages of the Crescent Township Police and the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
Police said a board member of the humane group has offered the reward for information that leads to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of those responsible in the case of animal cruelty.
Those with information to provide should contact township police by calling 724-457-8100, which provides access to a tip line or a non-emergency line for communicating with police.
Township police posted photos of the dog on the department’s Facebook page. They said a resident reported the dog had been abandoned near their home Tuesday evening.
Callers told police the dog was dropped off from a dark-colored sedan, possibly a blue Chevy Impala, after the car pulled into the driveway of an abandoned home. According to police, the driver left after throwing a ball, which the dog chased.
The dog was “in need of food and water, as well as some love,” said police, who took her to their station and fed her.
“She consumed two bowls of food and water before lying down for some much-needed rest,” police said.
In addition to receiving veterinary care, she was treated to peanut butter at the humane organization.
