A Beaver County man was sentenced Tuesday to just over three years in jail after lying about the purchase of four 9-millimeter pistols, which he gave to two men who’d accompanied him while buying them, according to U.S. Attorney Cindy Chung.
Calvin Brady Jr., 25, of Beaver Falls, was sentenced to 37 months imprisonment for making a false statement to purchase firearms. On Dec. 12, 2020, according to court documents, Brady and two other men entered the Rural King in Center, where surveillance footage showed all three browsing guns before settling on four Taurus GC3 pistols and extended magazines, which Brady then purchased.
“Prior to purchasing the pistols, (Brady) certified to the federal firearm licensee that he was purchasing the firearms for himself,” U.S. Justice officials said in a news release.
The next day, New Jersey State Police arrested the two men who’d accompanied Brady to the Rural King following a high-speed chase, during which they’d thrown multiple guns from their vehicle. Those three guns were later recovered and traced back to Brady’s purchase.
On Dec. 17, federal agents arrested Brady while he was the occupant of a vehicle whose driver was carrying the fourth pistol.
In addition to the prison sentence, Brady is also subject to three years of supervised release.
