Boil-water advisory in effect for 2 Beaver County communities

A water main break in Beaver Falls on Tuesday morning led authorities to issue a boil-water advisory for residents living in the city and neighboring Eastvale.

The break resulted in a loss of water pressure, increasing the risk for water contamination.

People were advised to boil their water before using it, including Beaver Falls Area School District students and staff members.

Big Beaver Falls Area School District, which includes Beaver Falls and Eastvale, announced in a Facebook post that it planned to have school Tuesday and would give students and teachers bottled water in the cafeteria. All district water fountains will be turned off for at least 48 hours.

Residents also are being advised to use boiled and bottled water for washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food until further notice.

Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV reported that the Beaver Falls Meals on Wheels would be closed Tuesday because of the water main break.

The Beaver Falls Municipal Authority said it had potable water available at 1425 8th Ave., but residents would need to bring their own containers to fill.
