Cold, snowy Halloween in store for Western Pa.
A cold and snowy Halloween is in store for the Pittsburgh area, according to the National Weather Service.
“In terms of accumulations, we’re really not expecting much,” said meteorologist Tim Cermak with the National Weather Service office in Moon. “We’re expecting about an inch, possibly as high as an inch-and-a-half to two inches north of (Interstate) 80 up in Mercer County, Venango County due to the lake effect and also in the higher terrains in Western Pennsylvania.
“The ground is still warm so for the most part accumulation is going to be limited to elevated, grassy surfaces. And also in the higher terrains in Westmoreland and Fayette County and down into West Virginia.

“In the Pittsburgh area, we’re not expecting any impacts to roads except for wet roads so take your normal precautions during the Wednesday morning rush hour. Right now, it doesn’t look like icy roads are going to be much of an issue,” Cermak said.
Cermak added that during trick-or-treating hours — between 5 and 7 p.m. — the wind is expected to pick up and temperatures will dip into the mid 30s. The worst weather won’t arrive until after 7 p.m.
The last time it was this cold for Halloween in this area was in 2020 when the temperature was 27, according to the National Weather Service. Average temperatures for this time of year is in the mid 50s, Cermak said.
