A Somerset County boy was cited to juvenile court for making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct by state police after posting on social media last month that he planned to shoot another student in the Rockwood Area School District.

Trooper John Wogan of the Somerset station reported that the threat by the 13-year-old student was made via Instagram on May 22. He said the junior high school student advised some other students not to go to school on May 23 because “he was going to bring a pistol to school after thinking about doing so for a month…”.

Wogan said the youth threatened to start in a specific classroom, “with a select student.”

The youth who made the threat did not report to school May 23, Wogan said. However, the absence caused the Rockwood High School, where junior high school students attend, to be placed on external lockdown until the juvenile could be located.

According to Wogan, the student was discovered at home with his mother and admitted to writing the threatening messages. Police said the boy did not have access to weapons.

Wogan said the teenager was also disciplined by the school district.
