State police in Uniontown said speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors in a single-vehicle crash late Wednesday that killed a 62-year-old Fayette County woman and seriously injured her husband in Menallen Township.
Deborah K. Kaider of New Salem, who was a passenger in a 2015 Chrysler driven by her husband, Victor, died from her injuries at Uniontown Hospital where she was taken for treatment after the 11:24 p.m. crash. Victor Kaider, 65, is being treated for serious injuries at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, police said.
Trooper Joshua Wiskeman reported Kaider was driving at a high rate of speed in the 1000 block of New Salem Road when he lost control and drove off the highway, striking a utility pole and crashing through several metal fences.
The coroner’s office said Dearth Funeral Home in New Salem is in charge of arrangements.
