The Washington County Coroner said a 49-year-old Charleroi woman has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed by a train Tuesday.
Coroner S. Timothy Warco said Lisa M. Lees was hit by a Norfolk Southern train as she crossed railroad tracks near 7th Street and Railroad Way in Charleroi about 10 p.m.
Lees was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday. Warco said Lees died of multiple blunt force trauma and the death was ruled accidental.
Norfolk Southern police are investigating.
Lee’s death was at least the 16th train or railroad fatality this year in Pennsylvania, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. Allegheny County saw a single pedestrian killed both in March and April. Two people in Beaver County died in February when a train struck a vehicle.
Nationwide, nearly 400 deaths have been reported this year for incidents involving trains or on property near railroads, the federal agency reports.
In 2018, Pennsylvania saw 17 train-related deaths, the agency reported.
